I'm going to the Kiwis game at the Olympic Stadium too- should be a larf! Much better game than Union, if you've never watched it have a look at an Aussie game on Premier Sports, brutal stuff at times.

Re: Rugby League
League and Union are both very good games when played the right way.
Union is more likely to become a yawnfest if both teams want to play a kicking game.

Used to watch the London Broncos when they played at Grffin Park.

Always liked League, much better than Union.

The game, unlike Union, is not about kicking the ball, it's about handling it.

I was at this game last night (as a neutral) and the atmosphere was great. Cracking game, which was in the balance until near the end. Luckily I had my money on Leeds.

Re: Rugby League
Australian rules is always colloquially referred to as football but I note now that the ABC website and some of the newspapers put it on the sports menu as AFL alongside cricket, tennis etc and list football as football.
I grew up in Perth so rugby league like Union was some odd game played in Qld & NSW & Australian rules was the dominant game. And still is.
Setting up Greater Western Sydney & Gold Coast to add to Sydney Swans & the Brisbane Lions is obviously an attempt to challenge rugby league in those states.
It's all about money obviously but all it will mean is that some of the smaller Melbourne clubs will continue to decline.

Re: Rugby League
Very big here, it’s the number 1 sport in Sydney, go the odd time and can be a good night out, reasonably priced as well, used to be better before they clamped down on the biff, think it was more about the TV company’s getting concerned and PC types complaining about it being shown on TV than anything else, cant have the kiddies watching violence, but always liked the fact they would knock seven bells of shit out of each other then at the final siren, walk off having a laugh about it and it was all forgotten.

Much prefer it too Union, but not a patch on Football, and do hate the Aussies always pulling me up for calling it that, they only know it as “Soccer”

Re: Rugby League
Prefer League to Union - at least the ball remains in play/visible in League as opposed to being laid on/out of sight beneath a dozen or so very strange men in union. But in truth avoid both.

Re: Rugby League
The Australian version is better than the UK version. But both are better than union.

The Alex McKinnon incident briefly put me off though.

If I go back to live in Australia, I'll be going every week again.

As a disinterested occasional TV viewer always found it far more entertaining than Rugby Union.

Re: Rugby League
Its two bob.
Totally inferior to union.

Watching the mugs try and kick conversions tells you all you need to know.

To be fair though..they are fit lumps.

Re: Rugby League
They love it over here in Stralia, I find it pretty mindless, we've had six now you have six (I hope I've got the right game here). They have some pretty good fisticuffs though, great big dumb fuckers kicking shit out of each other.

Every year they have Qld (where I am) vs NSW called State Of Origin. They really get wound up over these 3 games. You used to always be guaranteed loads of mass brawls per game but they've even clamped down on that now. It's lost all its pulling power to me now.
